What can the Intense Pulsed Light System treat?

  • Solar Lentigines: More commonly known as sunspots, age-spots and liver spots.
  • Actinic Bronzing: Overall browning of the skin
  • Vascular Lesions- superficial blue, red, or purple veins under the skin’s surface. Some common types include Rosacea (facial inflammation) and Spider Veins (tiny vessels that appear near the surface of the face).
  • Acne- kills bacteria causing acne
  • Produces new collagen to make younger looking skin

Pulses of concentrated light are directed onto the skin and absorbed by the melanin in pigmented lesions. Pulsed light systems are similar to lasers, but with a larger, more diffuse beam for safe, fast, and comfortable treatments.

For older skin, the process causes the production of new collagen at the reticular layer underneath the dermis.

The light pulse is directly absorbed by the pigment in the lesion. The light heats the pigment and breaks it up. The lesion darkens and crusts after treatment and is naturally shed from the skin after approximately ten days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What body areas can I get treated?

Any area, except directly around the eyes. The face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, etc. can all be treated quickly and safely.

What is a treatment session like?

Quick and easy! After your initial preparation, your treatment provider will move the pulsed light hand piece over your skin. The hand piece emits a light that breaks up the pigment in the lesions. Most people perceive the light as a gently ‘snapping’ sensation, which causes little to no discomfort.

Will the Treatments Hurt?

Our clinic uses a unique long pulsewidth that delivers energy to the skin over a relatively long period of time. This makes the pulses safer and more comfortable. You may experience a feeling similar to that of a rubber band being snapped on the skin, but most people do not report this sensation as painful.

What should I expect after treatment?

Pigmented lesions will darken slightly after treatment, and then fade away after about 10-14 days.

Vessels (visible veins) generally undergo immediate graying or blanching and the surrounding area may redden. The vessels then fade after about 10-4 days.

You may experience temporary redness and a mild "sunburn"- like effect that may last a few hours to a few days.
